Target Dollar Spot $40 Home Decor Refresh

 January 21, 2019

At this point it’s downright cliche to gush about how much one loves Target. We know, we get it. It’s nirvana for like all of us. And for me these days? A home decor extravaganza!

But wait. Can we talk about my most favorite section of any store anywhere? THE TARGET DOLLAR SPOT!! It’s been my go-to for easy home decor details and this last haul is maybe my favorite.

Target’s Dollar Spot, or Bullseye’s Playground as it’s called in some stores, feels like a personal piece of lifestyle heaven to me. It’s all beautifully themed and curated and I swear it just keeps getting better. Whomever is responsible for this stroke of retail genius needs a corner office, a raise and the chance to come Dollar Spot my entire house!

With all items ranging from $1 to $5, it’s honestly the most affordable way to easily decorate a room, theme a party or simply spruce up a corner of your home. Besides the fact that everything is ridiculously cute, I’ve found most things are of good quality.

After dismantling Christmas a few weeks ago, I was kind of at a loss for seasonally transitional home decor that would be able to counteract the gray January/February days here in Chicago. I knew I wanted cozy and calm, didn’t want to do any Valentine’s Day related and was over the loud, boisterous tones and textures of the holidays.

Once again, Target Dollar Spot to the rescue!! How do they always know?!?

I grabbed some mirrors, a few quippy signs, 3 ceramic birds and couple greeting cards more intended for Valentine’s but would work for my purposes. A bath mat, faux succulents (always better for me, The Plant Murderer), a shabby chic bird house and clippy easel thing.

I totally fell for this color palette. Not too spring-y but definitely not holiday. It all felt fresh but neutral and went perfectly with my gray themed house.

So I set to work!

Guest Bath

I have a small window ledge in our downstairs guest bath and it’s the perfect spot to add some color. A welcome sign and a few succulents and it’s a refreshing little vignette.

This swatch of wall in my kitchen has always baffled me. For years I would just throw a random wreathe up there and call it a day. Thanks to my Dollar Spot finds, it’s the perfect spot for a long hang! 3 of the $5 mirrors (they also came in circle and heart shape) brought some interest and light!

One of my favorite things to do with home decor is to take something not meant for a purpose and rock it in a new way. This small bathmat rug became an oversized center placemat for my kitchen table! Not only does it give some visual interest but it’s sturdier than most table cloths and stands up to the abuse of my kids. Also loving the color with my apples 🙂

These little ceramic birds just called my name so I grabbed a bunch of them at $1 each! I threw these up on my living room window sill with one of the Dollar Spot wooden signs and again, a lovely little vignette! Are you sensing a theme??

A lot of my decorating is just moving other things I have to new spots, grouping with new items and boom! A whole new look!

For this, I grabbed a faux potted ivy plant I’ve had for years, a wooden star that is Dollar Spot circa 2017 and added the birdhouse and ceramic birds from my latest haul. This feels cozy and fresh and I totally love it.

I will admit, the one piece I kind of struggled to find a home for was the clippy easel. So I grabbed one of my favorite old pics of my now big kid and threw it up on a shelf in the kitchen creating the perfect show place for little memories. I love that as I come across random prints I can easily change it out.

You guy. My grand total for this easy Target home decor spruce up?
A whopping $40!

Once again, Target killing the game and I pledge allegiance for all days.
