I have a few things in this life that I just adore; my family, my friends, food, my Peloton, my runner journey, creative endeavors of all sorts and MAKEUP. I’ve had my hands in makeup from all sides for over 10 years but my favorite part has been my freelance work. Bridal, prom, special occasion…I’ve done it all. And I love it all.
Recently, I’ve become a part of something so wonderful, so inspiring and so empowering, we just need to talk about it.
A few months back, I was asked by an old high school buddy, Laurie Baker, if I would be interested in joining her photography team as her makeup artist. I jumped at the chance! She is insanely talented and I’ve always admired her work.
For the last 10 years she has focused her business on newborn, infant and family photography. Recently she has started Boudoir by Elle Photography and brought a new brand of boudoir to the area. She gives women a place and space to explore and celebrate their femininity. Laurie is doing it on her terms and celebrating the female form in a whole new way.
Meet Laurie 🙂
Tell us a bit about your professional journey as a photographer…
I was drawn to the world of photography almost a decade ago and through a lot of hard work and inspiration have made it my career. I am the owner of Boudoir by Elle and Elle Baker Photography and have a commercial studio space in Homer Glen, IL. When I’m not working, I am a mother of three beautiful children and a wife to a really great guy. I am inspired by film and fine art photography with a minimalist style and use neutral tones and textures to create emotive imagery.
What was your inspiration for Boudoir by Elle Photography?
There is a gentle balance between capturing a photo and capturing a moment in time. Both equally important when telling your unique story. I realized in my own personal search for a boudoir photographer, that only a handful of artists offered natural beauty boudoir. I asked myself, how are we encouraging women to love themselves the way that they are if we are only presenting them in an unrealistic way. And so it began my journey as a boudoir photographer seeking artful and empowering images of women. To me boudoir photography is an art form and a way for me to create beautiful imagery that reflects a woman’s independence and natural beauty. I am drawn to romantic, organic, and understated imagery and create modern boudoir artwork from a woman’s perspective.

The boudoir session itself is such an amazing experience, what is it you hope to achieve for your clients?
My goal with every session is for the woman to walk away feeling more than just ‘beautiful’. I want them to feel empowered, uplifted, and celebrated. My clients come in during different times in their lives….some celebrating a new found independence, pregnancy, motherhood and some overcoming illness and life struggles. We all have a story to tell and I am there to document how incredible these women are.
