I’ll start by saying – BLOGGING IS NOT DEAD – especially if you are blogging for your business as part of your overall content marketing strategy. So let’s get you writing a blog post that works FOR you!
Consistent and well optimized blog posts are one of the best ways to boost your SEO, build authority within your industry and create content to be used across multiple platforms.Â
So now that you know WHY you should be blogging, here’s some blog styles to try!
10 Blog Post Styles To Get You Going…
1. Listicles (psst, you’re reading a listicle right now)
Listicles are simply blog articles, or posts, written in list form. Sometimes you may give more info on each point (like I’m doing currently) or it’s just a rundown of important points around a topic.
These types of posts are great for topics that don’t need a ton of explanation or deep diving. You’re just giving ideas, info or resources in a list format.
Listicles are also awesome options when you don’t have the time (or mental bandwith) to write a dense, text heavy blogp post.
2. How-To Blog Post
A How-To blog post is exactly that – how to do something from start to finish.Â
These posts are where your expertise and authority can really shine! Taking someone through a process, step by step, will establish you as a problem solver in that area.Â
How-To posts are also highly searched! Make sure you know your target keywords and you’re hitting all the SEO benchmarks so the chances of your How-to post showing up on that first page of search results are nice and high.
(These are also great to embed with a video how-to on the same topic)
3. Best of Blog Post
‘Best of’ posts are a curated list of the best of a particular thing.
Best dog foods for senior dogs, Best shampoos for color treated hair, Best lattes in Chicago.
You get the idea. These posts are great if you have affiliate links or sponsorships too.
4. Ultimate Guide
Ready to tell them everything you know? Ultimate Guide blog posts are super informative, jam packed with value and considerably longer than a typical post.
Maybe you can write the Ultimate Guide To Springtime Lawn Care? You’re going to share all your expertise, recommend products and services and cover every subtopic that falls under springtime lawn care.
These kinds of posts usually become pillar posts (posts that cover all aspects of a topic) and are awesome to pull additional blog content from.
5. Industry Insights & News
As an expert in your industry, you’ve got your ear to the pipeline of news, insights and upcoming trends that may affect your business and your customers.
Creating blog posts around these topics once again establishes your authority and keeps your business relevant and ready to grow within your industry.
6. Personal Stories/Lessons
A big part of marketing your business is sharing not just how you serve your clients but the WHY behind it too.
Sharing personal stories, behind the scenes glimpses and messages directly from you to your clients builds trust and rapport.
7. Interviews
Interview posts are all about bringing value, expanding your network and increasing SEO with backlinks from your interviewee’s website.
When you interview someone who can give more clarity to a topic, support your own work and add a new perspective, this creates a really juicy blog post.
8. Video Blog Post
Blog posts that contain video on the same subject do really well in searches. They also speak to people who prefer to watch and learn instead of read and learn.
Using video in your blog posts is also an awesome way to repurpose content you already have, saving you time!
9. Product Reviews & Recommendations
Blog posts focused on the reviews of products do really well too. These can be formatted like listciles and are also a great vehicle for affiliate links.
These posts do well when they are short, skimmable and easy to navigate.
10. Resource/Info Curation
Consistent blogging builds trust with your audience and writing blog posts that gives further information or resources on a subject is part of that.
Posts in which you are providing up-to-date, more in-depth info on a particular topic or industry all in one place, so your reader doesn’t have to click all over the internet, is an awesome option.Â
The bottom line?
Blogging is a tried and true vehicle for SEO, brand building and content creation. Don’t overlook it when planning your content strategy!
And remember that every post doesn’t have to be exactly the same. Mix it up, see what does best and keep at it – I promise it will pay off in the end.
